Side note: it's fun to be on the tinyweb and that this is a thing!
I wrote my first actual post here today, and it was pretty refreshing.
No complicated algos, no ads, no immediate sensation of being watched.
It felt like what the internet could've become, and what a bunch of people dreamt about early on.
If you were online in the late 90's and early 2000's, message boards, forums, ircs, etc, were where you hung out with people, but a lot of the experience was also hanging out around artifacts that people left in the form of blogs, websites, specific services, rather than this living/breathing places such as Twitter.
Don't get me wrong - I enjoy much of what has internet has become, but I also loathe some of it. And a huge part of me missed the feeling of being on a niche place, with niche people.
Bearblog makes me feel a bit in a niche again, with niche people.
Maybe it's just a tired perspective, but it could also just be a reflex of the introspective part of me wishing for introspection where this is mostly not doable.
Nice to have bearblog, though. I spent a few minutes configuring the upvote to look like mine, and it's there. Honestly, this is the main reason I wrote this post - to click on it.
